Taylor Wilkes made this photograph at a birding ranch in southern Texas during a bird photography workshop. Each day the guides dropped the photographers off in photo blinds, where they spent hours waiting quietly as birds came and went. This green jay settled on the end of a weathered branch and turned to scan the brush, its bright blue crown, black bib, yellow-green body and long golden tail standing out against a soft wash of green.
With the bird set to one side and open, glowing space in front of it, the photograph captures that alert, watchful moment that gives it its name. Green jays are tropical birds, and in the United States they're found only in the southern tip of Texas, which makes them a highlight for anyone birding the region.
Available on metal, canvas or fine art paper, in sizes from 12" x 18" up to 40" x 60". Canvas and fine art paper prints are made right here in our Wichita, Kansas store. Metal prints are produced by our partner lab, which we believe is the best metal print lab in America, for vivid color and a sleek, modern finish that's a good fit for offices, restaurants and other commercial spaces.
Want to share it? On the Lookout is also available as a 5" x 7" art card, blank inside for your own message.
